There is no single right length of stay

Recovery residences do not all set the same minimum or maximum stay, and research-informed guidance generally links longer support with stronger recovery outcomes. The right length depends on your stability, your support network, your finances, and your next housing option—not on a universal number of months.

Be cautious of any source that promises a fixed timeline guarantees recovery. Treat length of stay as a plan you revisit with the people supporting you, not a deadline you either meet or fail.

Measure progress, not just time

Useful markers include consistent sobriety, a stable routine, reliable income or education progress, repaired relationships, and a concrete plan for where you will live next. Time in the home matters because it gives these changes room to take hold.

Weekly house meetings and coaching conversations are a good place to review those markers honestly. At Brevard Grace House, weekly group coaching and peer accountability are part of the model, alongside live-in house management.

  • Am I keeping my weekly commitments consistently?
  • Is my income or education plan stable?
  • Do I have a realistic next housing option?
  • What would need to be true before I move on?

Plan the finances for the stay you actually need

A longer stay is easier to sustain when the cost is predictable. At Brevard Grace House the rate is $195 per week, all-inclusive, plus a one-time $100 move-in fee, so you can project costs week by week without surprise utility bills.

If family is helping, agree on the amount and duration of that support in advance and review it together as your situation changes. Ask admissions for written payment and refund terms before committing.

Prepare your next step before you need it

Start thinking about what comes after sober living well before you plan to leave: where you will live, who is in your support network, and how you will keep recovery activities in your week. A gradual transition with a plan is usually sturdier than a sudden move driven by a single good or bad week.

If your needs change during your stay—clinically or personally—raise that with your care providers and house management early. Recovery housing is not clinical treatment, and a supportive home should be clear about when outside care is needed.

Discuss your timeline with Grace House admissions
