Work is part of the structure, not a distraction from it
Brevard Grace House expects every resident to complete at least 32 hours per week of employment, education, volunteering, or approved productive activity. That expectation is a feature of the program: steady daytime commitments give early recovery a spine, and they make the house’s weekly meetings and coaching something you plan around rather than wait for.
If you are arriving without a job, you are not behind. Many women use a first stretch in sober living to combine part-time work with volunteering, training, or school hours until a full schedule comes together. Bring your current situation to admissions and ask how a planned combination of work and education fits the written expectations.
Start with Brevard’s public workforce resources
CareerSource Brevard, the region’s public workforce development board, publishes job listings, hiring events, resume help, and training programs for Brevard County residents. Public workforce services are free to job seekers, and they are a sensible first stop whether you are re-entering the workforce, changing industries, or documenting your experience for the first time in a while.
Beyond that, the practical route most residents take is simple: list your skills honestly, apply consistently, and tell prospective employers what you can commit to rather than what you hope for. Recovery housing does not promise job placement; Grace House has not promised employment, transportation, or income to anyone. Treat any claim otherwise, at any home, as a question to verify.
- Check CareerSource Brevard for listings and events
- List your real skills and availability before applying
- Apply consistently rather than waiting for one perfect role
- Ask employers what schedule flexibility actually exists
- Keep records of applications and interviews
Plan the commute with your real shift
Brevard County is long and spread out, so a job offer in another part of the county can quietly add cost and stress. Once admissions confirms the residence address, test the trip for your actual shift in both directions. If you will use buses, check current Space Coast Area Transit schedules and the first and last runs that fit your hours; if you drive, add fuel and maintenance to your budget.
Ask admissions how a late or overnight shift would fit house expectations before you accept the role. Exact curfew rules should be confirmed directly with admissions rather than assumed from another residence or an online listing.
Build your budget around the weekly rate
Housing at Grace House is $195 per week, all-inclusive, plus a one-time $100 move-in fee. Utilities, Wi-Fi, on-site laundry, a fully equipped kitchen and coffee bar, stocked household supplies, weekly group coaching, and a welcome care package with body wash, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and snacks are included.
Your own expenses—groceries, phone, transportation, and any outside care—remain yours to plan. Once income starts, decide in advance what goes to housing, what goes to savings, and what goes to family obligations, and ask admissions for the payment schedule and written terms before committing. Children cannot currently live with residents at Grace House; mothers should plan contact and childcare arrangements separately with their care team.
Bring your work plan to the admissions conversation
Grace House is a recovery residence, not an employment agency or a treatment provider; coaching and peer support complement licensed care rather than replace it. The home is going through the FARR Level 2 certification review process and will be a FARR Level 2 certified recovery residence once certified.
Call or text (407) 758-0958 and name Brevard Grace House. A useful opening question is: “I’m planning my work and school schedule around a move after January 15, 2027—can we discuss how the 32-hour expectation and house routines fit?” An inquiry does not reserve a bed. Keep medical records out of text messages and ask for a secure process if documents are needed.
